An Isolated Neutron Star Discovered in the Chandra Data?
Abstract
We discovered a persistent X-ray source in Chandra/ACIS data with an extreme X-ray to optical (X/O) flux ratio, fx=fopt > 1400. We estimate an X-ray flux 4.5 x 10-13 erg cm-2 s-1 assuming a power-law spectrum. An R-band observation taken by the VLT gives R > 25 mag. We propose that it is a strong new candidate of isolated neutron stars (NSs). We need a deeper and multi-band optical/infrared observation to obtain a deeper limit on its optical counterpart and definitively rule out the possibility of a high-redshift, optically dim AGN.
